Holy Cross provides confirmation instruction for youth in 6th – 8th grades.

Our confirmation program is based on a small group format which provides youth with a significant relational group. With these groups, students are doing more than just learning. They have a support group, they begin spiritual development, and they have a mentor in their adult leader. This specific confirmation program has a three-fold approach: every third week the students will learn, play or serve together. This is a great way for the youth to build long lasting relationships with their peers and other adults in the congregation, and also to build a lasting relationship with God.

The curriculum currently used for confirmation is Sparkhouse’s re:form. This curriculum explores the Bible, The Apostle’s Creed, Discipleship, Jesus, Other Beliefs, and Tough Questions. This fun, youth friendly curriculum lets youth discover for

what they believe based on three components:
  • Encounter: Each lesson will include an entertaining animated short film that frames the tough theological questions that kids really ask, like “Who wrote the Bible?” and “Why does God let bad things happen?”
  • Engage: Youth will each receive an “Anti-Workbook” for use during their 3 years of confirmation education. This wire-bound journal includes activities and ideas for each lesson, with space to journal and doodle, and extras like pullout cards and cool stickers.
  • Respond: re:form prompts kids to make videos, take pictures, interview people, and create stuff. Then they can upload all of their artifacts to an online portfolio — the re:form gallery — where kids can share with the whole congregation what they’ve been learning.
Confirmation classes are held on Wednesday evenings during the school year from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.
