On Trinity Sunday (June 15), we heard a reading from Proverbs about Woman Wisdom. We heard about how She was there with God at the very beginning and helped with the creation of all that is. In Proverbs, Wisdom is described as taking delight in creation and one scholar described Her creative work as imbedding an imprint of the divine into all that was made.
This language and imagery of Woman Wisdom reminded me once again of how God makes Godself known to us in the beauty and awesomeness of the created world. How the presence of God continues here on earth through the Holy Spirit, shaping and reshaping the world around us.
Here is a poem that I wrote this week, inspired by Woman Wisdom and by the way God constantly seeks to be known by us - in big and small ways. I hope that it inspires you to look for God’s presence in the world around you.
Holy Wisdom
I see God
in the trees.
A glimmer,
a glimpse
of that Holy Presence.
Her breath,
Her strength,
turns the earth
and opens the flower.
Her beauty is found
in the mountains,
the ocean,
growing grass
and falling leaves.
I see God
in the morning sky.
A glimpse,
a glimmer
of my Mother’s smile.
She is with me
everywhere,
in all places.
The birds sing Her praise.
She never stops creating,
filling the earth
with beauty and newness.
Playfully dancing,
Painting new life.
I see God
in the trees.
A glimmer,
a glimpse
of the divine.
When I feel scared,
when I feel alone,
I lay back,
watch the leaves
And feel Her Holy Presence.
