Ash Wednesday on March 2 is the beginning of Lent where we are marked with the sign of the cross on our forehead or hand with ashes. You may hear the words, “You are dust, and unto dust you shall return.” Genesis 3:19. Now begins our remembrance of the journey, very radical for sure, that Jesus begins. I often think of the hymn, “Jesus Walked This Lonesome Valley” and of the lyrics “he had to walk it by himself.” So begins the journey, our musical journey.
Our Lent Wednesday nights to follow will be filled with music from the “Holden Evening Prayer.” It is a time to fill your spiritual tank and have a chance to mediate, sing, and pray. Perhaps, you want to do all three, or perhaps, you may like to peacefully sit. That may be what your soul needs.
Our Sundays will be just a “little bit of Easter” as Sundays are not included in the days of Lent. (Pastor Heather once mentioned in her sermon long ago that Sundays during Lent were a “little bit of Easter.” It was a fantastic epiphany for me!) Our special music comes from our Adult Choirs and our Children's Choirs including “The Prayer,” “Ave Verum,” and “A Dazzling Bouquet.”
Come journey with us and choose your path through music, mediation, prayer, and a little bit of "Easter" on Sunday!
