Losing My Religion?!Christianity: What needs to stay and what needs to go? The season of Lent is almost upon us. Lent is the 40 day season in the church calendar that begins on Ash Wednesday and runs through Easter. This year, Ash Wednesday is February 17. (For those of you who are sticklers for calendars and math, you will notice that there are actually 46 days between Ash Wednesday, February 17, and Easter Sunday, April 4. The season of Lent does not include the six Sundays during that time.)

"At This Table"Pull Up a Chair February is when we “usually” celebrate Holy Cross Lutheran Church becoming a Reconciling Congregation. Yet, you know exactly what I am going to say: “We are in the middle of a global pandemic. Nothing is anywhere near “usual!”

Preparing for Lent
Holy Cross Lutheran Church is preparing for the season of Lent. “How,” you ask? Gather your sticks! We need your sticks from your yard (which presently may be under a drift of snow) to prepare for Lent. Here are the size of sticks we need .5 inches or less in diameter (no bigger than your little finger) and 1 to 5 feet long-relatively straight. You can drop off your bundle of sticks at the office door by Sunday, February 7. You will see on Ash Wednesday how these sticks have been transformed to begin our season of Lent. Thank you! Thank You
Dear Holy Cross Family, I am so grateful for the generous Christmas gift my family received this year from Holy Cross. I cannot express how much it is appreciated or how very much it has helped. Thank you for your continued love and support. I am so very blessed to be apart of this amazing community. With a grateful heart, Pastor Heather |
Automatic Online GivingSwitching from Simply Giving to Tithe.ly Automatic Online Giving is a convenient way to consistently contribute your offering to Holy Cross. With automated online giving, your offerings are made through a pre-authorized withdrawal from your checking or savings account, or now from your credit card. You determine the amount and the frequency of your gift—weekly, every two weeks, twice a month (1st & 15th) or monthly. Your offering is deposited into Holy Cross' account on the same day it is withdrawn from your account, at no cost to you. For the past number of years, we have been using Simply Giving for automatic withdraws. We are now making the transition over to Tithe.ly. There are three significant differences between Simply Giving and Tithe.ly. The first, as mentioned above, is that Tithe.ly allows offerings to be made from a credit card or a bank account. (There is a slightly higher fee for using a credit card.) The second difference is that with Tithe.ly, you are in complete control of your automatic withdraws. Instead of completing and turning in a Simply Giving form, you set up your own account with Tithe.ly and then manage your automated giving yourself. Third, Tithe.ly offers you the opportunity to cover the transaction fees. Tithe.ly charges Holy Cross a small fee for each transaction. (Simply Giving charged transaction fees as well.) The per transaction fees for Tithe.ly are as follows:
By checking a box on the giving page, can see how much the fee for your transaction is and then decide if you want to add that amount to your donation. If you are currently using Simply Giving, CLICK HERE to learn how to switch to Tithe.ly. If you are not currently using Simply Giving, but would like to begin automated withdraws through Tithe.ly, CLICK HERE. Below please find some frequently asked questions and answers. How does automatic online giving benefits me? What are the benefits to Holy Cross? What is the minimum amount a person may have withdrawn for a contribution?

Stewardship and FinanceWhat Is Your Focus? “Worry gives you a wrong focus, in that it says, ‘God can’t take care of me.’” [John Maxwell] Giving to God gives us a right focus, in that it says, “God can and will take care of me.” “A checkbook is a theological document. It tells you what you are putting first in your life.” [John Maxwell]
