I got a chance to sit in on the Food Bank for the Heartland zoom conference call for Network Partners this past week. Just like the rest of us, the food bank is noticing an extreme increase in food costs (15% increase in cost of goods, 50% increase in fuel costs). They have also been facing staffing shortages as well as driver shortages. We have certainly been seeing these effects right here at Holy Cross when just this past week, myself, Dave and Debbie all made more grocery store runs than we can count.
The Network Partners on the call all said the same thing though. The number of folks coming to our pantries continues to rise. Here are some numbers for you all -
February 2020 we served 65 families with 256 individuals (this was in person prior to covid)
February 2021 we served 66 families with 271 indivdiuals
February 2022 we served 100 families with 389 individuals. Almost doubling our numbers from years past!
We appreciate all of your support as we to continue to serve the community.
