Fall season happens to be one of my favorite seasons. Though I hate to see summer go, I love the idea that we are back in a routine, especially with all our choirs!
I am thrilled for K-5 choirs. We have welcomed new members, and they have been embraced by the more experienced. Are they loud? Sometimes. Do they pay attention? For the most part. Are they creating and being part of a community? You betcha!!!!
Let’s not forget the Middle School/High School Choirs. These youth have welcomed the new 6th graders with open arms. On top of that, they are ALL really good singers and ringers. Be still, my soul. How did I get so lucky?!?
This October, the Chancel Choir is joined by the Middle School/High School Ensemble to sing some pretty powerful songs. “United in Purpose” is a justice piece written by Rollo Dilworth set to the poem of Maya Angelou. It is fierce. The words are powerful. I can’t wait for you to hear it. Another joint venture of the choirs is “Speechless” from Alladin written by Alan Menken, Benj Pasek, and Justin Paul. If you can guess, we are singing this on Reformation Day- the day that Martin Luther could not “be silenced.”
Last, but not least, I want to mention the Carolon Bell Choir. They are troopers as bells have been reassigned to cover some open positions. With that said, I’m inviting YOU regardless of any music experience. If you can count to “three” and “four” repeatedly, then all you need is a bell in hand! You can have the worst day ever, but then, come in and ring bells and walk out with a smile on your face. It is a team sport. Though you may not have the melody, your bell is equally important. Think on it. If you are interested, you know where to find me.
In closing, this is NOT what I thought I was going to share. It just kind of typed out of my fingers! I am so excited about the music here at HCLC and how we are able to share our faith through songs of justice. Each Sunday, our Worship Leaders play and sing and help to inspire us during worhsip. I thank you all. I am on this journey with YOU!
Musically yours,
