Thanksgiving food pantry:

We are busy preparing for the biggest pantry of the year - our Thanksgiving pantry!  This year we are planning for 250 families.  The Thanksgiving pantry will take place on Thursday, November 20.  Each family will receive a turkey, bag of potatoes, boxed stuffing, green beans, cake mix & frosting along with their usual pantry bags.  A table will be set up in the narthex, beginning Sunday October 5, giving you the opportunity to “pick a feather” and donate towards the purchase of turkeys.

Each week a different item will be highlighted for collection.  The items can be placed in the blue bin beneath the pantry bulletin board.  The schedule of items is as follows:

October 12 - Canned Green Beans

October 19 - Canned Fruit

October 26 - Boxed Cake Mixes

November 2 - Cake Frosting

A special thank you to the following church partners who are assisting us with these collections:

  • Lord of Love Lutheran Church
  • Northwest Hills Church
  • Maplewood United Methodist Church

Volunteers:  We have seen an increase in our volunteers and we love it!  From unloading the Food Bank delivery, to pantry prep and pantry distribution - you have showed up!  It is wonderful to have so many new faces help with this ministry.  Several new volunteers mentioned how impressed they are with the process and how everyone was so helpful.

In addition, we have added a sign up sheet to the Food Pantry bulletin board in the narthex where you can indicate if you are interested in receiving training for the food pantry.  We will then coordinate with you a time before pantry prep or distribution starts to train you.

Beginning September 17, confirmation students started assisting with pantry prep on Wednesday evenings.  Since this is only part of their programming on Wednesdays, we welcome any parents who would like to assist in completing the prep once the children go to class.

If you would like to volunteer to help with upcoming pantries, please click here to sign-up. This will aid us in knowing who is coming to volunteer and to ensure we have opportunities for all.

September Numbers: we served 235 families, equaling 642 individuals. This is once again an increase from last month’s numbers.

Food Pantry Shoppers: Thanks to Peg's Pantry Shopper emails, the congregation continues to support the needs of the pantry.

If you would like to be a Pantry Shopper and receive the weekly deals, email schneider7@cox.net and use Pantry Shopper as the subject.  You'll receive an email or two a week with grocery sales and deals that will help stock our pantry.

Current Needs: Our greatest needs this month are cereal, soup, bar soap and toilet paper.

Friendly Reminder- The blue bin has been moved from the hallway to in front of the Food Pantry bulletin board in the narthex, for better visibility.  To help with our inventory control please only put your donations in the blue bin.

We are no longer providing personal care items as the need for food is in higher demand.
