Greetings!  My name is Becky Jones, and I am the Music and Worship Coordinator at Holy Cross Lutheran Church.  Welcome to my first EVER Blog!  I knew it was just a matter of time.  My hope is that I have not missed the wave and now am totally out of fashion.

The last time that you were in a vocal ensemble, do you remember your director vigorously shouting, "Sing with your eyes?"  It's a placement thing.  A "sing with your eyes" singer produces a better quality of sound not to mention is more plesant to watch as they sing.  So, here is where I am going with this thought.....

Go back to the pic just above.  It is a pic of my husband and me right after I made the first two pandemic masks from left over material from a quilt that I made my daughter many moons ago. The time:  midnight.  Never in a million years did I think that I would be making masks out of quilt scraps, yet, here we are.

What I love about this pic is that we are both smiling even though our faces are covered.  Right before we modeled our masks, we talked about our anxieties and fears and how a global pandemic would have lasting effects.  We should have been sobbing.  Instead, we took a picture and sent it to our daughter with the text that I would make her masks, too.   We thought smiling was an excellent option!

My outings are few, but when I am out, I wear my mask.  Even though you can barely see my eyes, I always think, "Sing with your eyes, Becky. Sing with your eyes!"  I think it is only fair that you look as pleasant as possible during one of the most impossible times that we have ever encountered.  I can't wait to see what my  face looks like after I can put away my mask!

Musically yours,

Becky
